Scripture: Numbers 21:8
“Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and it shall be that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live.’”
When serpents plagued the Israelites, God provided a strange solution: a bronze serpent lifted on a pole. Those who looked at it in faith were healed.
Jesus later explained the meaning: “As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up” (John 3:14). The serpent on the pole pointed to the Cross, where Christ became sin for us so that we might be saved.
The cure wasn’t in their effort or rituals — it was in looking to God’s provision. In the same way, salvation is not about what we do but about looking to Jesus, who was lifted up for our healing and forgiveness. Just as the Israelites could do nothing but look in faith, so we too are called to look to Christ alone for salvation.
Action
This week, fix your eyes on Christ as your only hope. Each day, pause and pray: “I look to You, Jesus.”
In your journal on Friday, reflect:
Where am I tempted to “heal” myself instead of looking to Christ?
How does the Cross remind me of God’s mercy?
Who can I point to Jesus this week by sharing how He has healed me?
